Welcome to the EPR e-Learning module on Disability and Quality of Life

This module was not developed by the QOLIVET Project but rather originated from a previous initiative called Quality of Life for All (QoL4ALL) project. Funded by the Erasmus programme, this project aimed to enhance the abilities of adult education professionals engaged in improving the quality of life for individuals with profound and severe disabilities. To learn more, please refer to the project website available here. As this module is considered complementary and beneficial, it has been included in this platform to provide trainees with a more comprehensive understanding of the subject matter.

EPR has worked and focused for many years on the quality of life impact on services provided to persons with disabilities. In 2018, EPR decided to include on its work programme concrete meetings and activities to be developed directly linked to this topic of increased interest.

One of the activities is this e-Learning Module aimed at providing key information about Quality of Life, its definition and how it relates to persons with disabilities and the services provided to them. What the existing are tools and instruments to measure those. This e-Learning module is addressed to a broad audience. Both experts and non-experts on this subject can benefit from it.

In order to put together this e-Learning module, EPR has compiled input from experts, written and audiovisual resources. In particular, EPR has worked with its expert Donal McAnaney.

We are glad you have decided to follow this online course. On this General Introduction section we would like to share some information about the e-Learning module itself. We hope that providing this information will help you better understand the overall objectives of the e-Learning module, but also how to navigate it, consult the resources, what you can expect to learn and how you can contribute to further improve this tool.

WHY create an e-learning course?

EPR believes that e-learning modules are unique tools to share expertise and for learners to access relevant resources at their own pace. Thanks to the financial support of the European Commission and the contribution of a number of EPR’s partners, EPR is able to offer this e-learning module free of charge, which also reduces costs associated with buying materials and attending events.

The aim of this e-learning module in particular is to share relevant information on Quality of Life and explore how service delivery contributes to the quality of life of people with disabilities, how experts can assess the quality of life of people with disabilities and what instruments and tools are there to do so. For this, the e-learning module is divided in four thematic sections:

A. Quality of Life

B. Understanding Models and Approaches to understanding Quality of Life

C. Measuring Quality of life

D. Good Practices

WHO could benefit from this course?

This e-learning module is meant for all wishing to further their understanding of quality of life, how it is defined and how services to people with disabilities contribute to it.

!! Contribution and support to make this e-learning module more accessible are welcome. Please get in touch if you would like to contribute.

HOW can you access the resources?

You will be able to access the course at any time and from any device using your free account to the Teachable platform.

There is no specific order to access the resources and you will be able to navigate it freely. We believe that the proposed structure can help you in move forward in your learning journey. However, should you consider yourself an expert on quality of life, you may prefer to explore the assessments sections first, or the other way around.

WHAT happens after I have completed the e-learning course?

First and foremost, we hope that you enjoyed it.

In terms of learning objectives, EPR hopes that this e-learning course has helped you better understand quality of life and how to assess it and measure it for services that apply to people with disabilities and inspired you to keep learning more about it.

Please be aware that EPR will release an attest that you have followed the e-learning module. This is will only give you an informal certification of your commitment and interest in attending the e-meaning module.

In addition to the financial support from the European Commission, EPR would like to thank in particular Donal McAnaney, expert collaborator with EPR, Rehab Group (IE).

Enjoy the course!
